How we use your information
We collect as little as we can and keep it for as short a time as we can.
When you send an enquiry
We ask for your name, email address, phone number, home postcode, the area of law and a short message. We use your postcode to find legal aid firms within 25 miles, then email your details to those firms so they can contact you. We email you a copy of the list of firms.
As soon as every firm has been sent your enquiry, we delete your name, email address, phone number, full postcode and message. If an email to a firm keeps failing, we still delete your details within 3 days.
We keep only anonymous facts: a reference number, the area of law, the first half of your postcode (for example "SE6"), the date, and which firms were contacted. We use these to report on demand for legal aid.
Once a firm receives your enquiry, that firm is responsible for how it uses your details.
If you create an account
We keep your name, email address and password (stored securely) so you can log in and see the enquiries you've sent. You can delete your account at any time from your account page.
Our legal basis
We share your enquiry with firms because you ask us to and give your consent on the enquiry form.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
